Planed oak . Oak pieces have been planed and are made from air dried oak – so they will inevitably contain surface cracks, splits and knots. There may also be a few waney edges – all of which add to the overall character. As a result of the planing, you will have all bright faces – so these may require further sanding or oiling to achieve your desired look.
Sanded oak . Sanding is carried out before finishing to remove defects from the wood surface that will affect the appearance and performance of finishes that are subsequently applied to the wood. These defects include cutter marks and burns, scratches and indentations, small glue spots and raised grain.
